Information About Gary Scott AAPGAI
Gary Scott began fishing for coarse fish with his father at a very tender age, but never really caught the fishing bug. When older an interest in big game fishing took him to Portugal for three weeks, which turned into four years crewing on a big game fishing boat, what a life that was!
Meeting a young Scottish lass brought him to Scotland where he saw fly fishing for the first time, he was hooked from the start. He was also lucky enough to meet the World Champion Fly Caster Peter Anderson, Peter took Gary under his wing, the rest can be put down to history. Lesson after lesson and practice after practice followed and eventually Gary took and passed his first Professional Instructor examination. This continued until he passed his APGAI and AAPGAI qualifications.
Gary has specialised in the use of the salmon double handed rod and through his involvement with other casters like Peter Anderson, Ian Gordon, Eoin Fairgreive, Bill Drury and Scott Mackenzie his distance casting skills have developed to the point where he is now considered one of the best in the world. He won his first distance casting event at The Chatsworth Game Fair. Since that first win Gary has continued to rank high in all the competitions he has entered and in 2006 the five man Scottish team of Ian Gordon, Eoin Fairgreive, Bill Drury, Scott Mackenzie and Gary were crowned world champions at the World Emerald Masters in Ireland with over thirty countries competing. It has been Gary's willingness and enthusiasm to learn that has allowed him to develop his skills, skills that he is now well placed to pass on to others.
Gary continues to develop his casting, demonstrating and teaching skills. In 2008 he will be introducing salmon fishing courses on the Miramichi in Canada and further developing his fishings on the River Tay in Scotland for beginners, advanced and corporate.
His involvement in fly casting and fly fishing has not only allowed Gary to develop his abilities but has forged great friendships, without which he is well aware he would never have progressed as a caster in the way he has. Thanks go to Eoin Fairgreive, Ian Gordon, Bill Drury, Scott Mackenzie for all their support and extra special thanks to Peter Anderson who made it all possible and Dr Way Yin his "best buddy" and one of the first USA spey casters to make their presence felt in the UK
Gary lives in Bishopbriggs just outside of Glasgow, Scotland UK.
